É com o som de piano que A Montanha Mágica se começa a desenhar perante os nossos ouvidos. Esse primeiro tema do novo álbum de Rodrigo Leão estabelece de imediato o tom para a viagem que se segue: melodias que parecem fazer-se do mesmo tecido dos sonhos e das memórias, rendilhados de cordas capazes de transportar quem os ouve para outro lugar. E assim se faz a magia da música de Rodrigo Leão, ela própria um outro lugar que oferece refúgio e conforto.
Neste álbum, produzido uma vez mais por Pedro Oliveira e Tiago Lopes, Rodrigo foi explorando as emoções associadas a todas as memórias que o próprio invocou pegando em instrumentos que há muito se encontravam fora da sua esfera de executante, como os já referidos baixos ou guitarras, ou até a bateria, que tocou para daí retirar loops que sustentassem algumas das peças d'A Montanha Mágica. Além de Rodrigo recorrer a outros instrumentos, gesto aliás seguido por Viviena Tupikova ou Celina da Piedade, que alargam a paleta tímbrica com o recurso a instrumentos como o metalofone ou o sintetizador, há ainda que apontar os contributos de convidados como Pedro Wallenstein (contrabaixo), João Eleutério (guitarras), Miguel Nogueira (músico do Quinteto Tati que aqui toca guitarra), Rui Vinagre (em guitarra portuguesa) ou Tó Trips (o guitarrista dos Dead Combo).
O australiano Scott Matthew surge em A Montanha Mágica num gesto já anteriormente ensaiado por Rodrigo Leão, que gosta de seguir as paixões que o tomam de assalto quando certos discos lhe vêm parar às mãos. O cantor gravou em Berlim e é dele a letra profunda de «Terrible Dawn». Já o brasileiro Thiago Petit canta palavras de Ana Carolina em «O Fio da Vida»: «já madruguei nos teus braços», confessa a revelação da canção brasileira sobre um arranjo de beleza delicada que, à semelhança de outros momentos do álbum, nos transporta para outro lugar. Miguel Filipe, que também assina as ilustrações da capa, fecha depois a viagem com o retrato cinemático d'«O Hibernauta», espécie de fado transfigurado, com contributo eléctrico de Tó Trips, que volta a colocar a acção no domínio dos sonhos.
A edição deste trabalho inclui ainda um DVD gravado ao vivo em Março de 2011 no Casino Estoril, integrado na sua última edição.

"Pianists Melinda Faylor and Manon Hutton-DeWys and percussionist Fred Trumpy play Claude Vivier's Pulau Dewata at Greenwich House Music School, September 23, 2011.

A stay in Bali in 1976, marked a turning point in Claude Vivier's

career. Most of the subsequent works were to show the influence of

the atmosphere of this Pacific island, whose inhabitants call it the

"Island of the Gods," or Pulau Dewata. This is the title given by Vivier to a work specially dedicated to the people of Bali. The composer describes it as follows: "This piece is a succession of nine melodies of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 sounds. These modes may be directly reminiscent of Bali, but what I wanted to write was a piece imbued with the spirit of Bali: its dances, its rhythms and, above all, an explosion of life, simple and candid. The ending is the traditional signature of many Balinese pieces, a loving homage to this marvelous people from whom I learned so much." The score of Pulau Dewata is dedicated to the McGill Percussion Ensemble. It does not specify instrumentation, permitting any combination of instruments that suits the scoring.

Get Your Gamel-On! is a series of concerts presented by pianists Melinda Faylor and Manon Hutton-DeWys that explores all of the imaginative ways in which Indonesian Gamelan has been a source of inspiration to classical music, with an emphasis on works for the piano.

Pieces for the concerts are drawn from both the standard piano repertoire of Ravel and Debussy, and from the more contemporary works of Ligeti, John Adams, Lou Harrison, Claude Vivier, and John Cage.

In addition, these concerts include traditional and modern Indonesian music performed on authentic instruments, improvisation with Gamelan, toy piano music, music on invented instruments, commissioned works from emerging composers, modern Balinese-inspired
dance, and video."
