Want to view your News Feed without the moving Ticker? Easy! Just view via a Friend List and the Ticker disappears. :) To organize your Friend Lists and Smart Lists, first, go to http://facebook.com/bookmarks/lists (or navigate there by clicking the "More" button way down at the bottom left column on your home page under Lists).

Then click the Edit pencil and choose to Add/Remove Favorite. Favor...ite Lists are placed at the very top left column of your home page, under News Feed. You can rearrange the order too: hover over the lists at the top left > click the edit pencil on any > click Rearrange > drag and drop order > click Done. Voila!

Each of these lists has its own URL (this was always the case with lists), so you can easily save your most favorite list as a bookmark on your browser and make that your default Facebook home page!! See screenshot.

Hope this helps any of my peeps who find the new Home Page and moving Ticker a bit too much! :) Or at least a nice alternate view that is an exact filter of which friends' content you wish to view!
